Driving After a Windshield Replacement
Once your technician says your car is ready, the urethane has cured enough to meet the Safe Drive-Away Time. However, you should still take precautions for the first 24 to 48 hours.
Leave the Tape On
If the technician applied retention tape to the top of your windshield, leave it there for at least 24 hours. It helps hold the glass perfectly in place while the adhesive fully cures.
Avoid Car Washes
Do not take your vehicle through a high-pressure automatic car wash for at least two days. The high pressure can damage the new seal before it is 100% dry. Hand washing is acceptable, but avoid spraying high-pressure water directly at the edges of the glass.
Be Gentle
Avoid slamming your doors with the windows rolled up. The sudden change in cabin pressure can push against the newly installed windshield. Crack a window slightly before closing the door if possible.
