OEM vs. Aftermarket Auto Glass

When replacing your windshield, you will often hear the terms OEM and aftermarket (or OEE). Understanding the difference helps you make the right choice.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)

OEM glass is made by the same manufacturer that supplied the original glass for your vehicle. It is identical in shape, thickness, and color, and will have the vehicle maker's logo stamped on it.

OEE/Aftermarket (Original Equipment Equivalent)

Aftermarket glass is manufactured by companies that do not hold the original contract with the car maker. However, it must meet the same Department of Transportation safety standards. It is generally cheaper but lacks the manufacturer logo.

Which should you choose?

For most drivers, high-quality aftermarket glass is perfectly fine and saves money. However, if you drive a newer luxury vehicle or a car with complex ADAS systems, OEM glass may be recommended to ensure precise camera calibration.
